The 2021 PANNONIA IFCA JUNIOR, YOUTH & MASTERS SLALOM EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS kick’s off with a relaxing start in Neusiedl am see, Burgenland, Austria.
The European Championship is scheduled to run from 18th to the 23rd of September on the famous Austrian lake of Neusiedl am see.
A total of 43 competitors from 13 Nations are registered and ready to race for the European Slalom Windsurfing Titles.
Among those are a few strong contenders such as; the Danish Jonas Thyme ranked #3 on the Youth Slalom Worlds list, Petr Cech #4 from the Czech Republic, Johan Søe from Denmark, and the strong Lohan Jules from France #6 in the Youth division.
In the Junior Boy division, we have top contenders returning for the European Title such as; the Vice Slalom Junior World Champion Leonardo Tomasini from Italy and David Drda #3 from the Czech Republic.
In the Girls division, we have the Vice Slalom Junior World Champion Maddalena Spanu from Italy aiming for the European Junior Girls Slalom Title and Mimosa Meroni #5 from Turkey. The new girl on the block is Germany’s Lucy Schleicher who made her International competition debut this season.
The Master’s division contains some of the best Austrian windsurfers on the National slalom scene which will produce some interesting battles with Leondin Judin from Serbia in the mix of it all.
On the evening of the 18th of September, the event was officially pronounced open by the President of the Austrian Sailing Federation Herbert Houf and the IFCA Class President Ruben Petrisie who both shared their gratitude for getting this international event and its entire event set up by the Federal Austrian Sailing Performance Center and the volunteers involved. The IFCA Class is now at its 3rd International slalom event for the season and has yet 2 more slalom championships scheduled for 2021.
No Wind, sets the title for the event opening day, with too light winds to kick off the races the competitors spend all day preparing their gear, hanging out, and playing games such as table tennis, UNO, and beach soccer. During the afternoon a Snack Bite was organized including a Tombola by Windsurfing Austria WSA with free product giveaways provided by supportive brands such as; Blipfins, Bto epoxy, Ion, Fanatic, Duotone, Point7, Neilpryde, and Jp Australia.
According to the forecast, Monday will likely be an early start and the race committee is planning to push most of the races on that day.
